in collaboration with The Golden Heart, Children Development
Centre and Zarmar Institute stormed the streets of Lagos
along with parents, friends, care givers and well wishers
to create more awareness and enlightenment for the public
on Autism. The theme of the walk was “Early Intervention
is Key”. |

|
The
walk took off at about 10am from the Onikan Stadium
with the awareness train moving along Amodu Bello
way and stopping over at the Silverbird Galleria for
a brief refreshments break and then later converging
at the National Television Authority (NTA) for an
interview with the Newsline Correspondent and reporters
from notable print media. The Newsline crew were obviously
excited about the event and interviewed some of the
participants. Those interviewed include Mrs Dotun
Akande (PSLC), Dr. (Mrs) Akindayomi and Mr Emuwa (Golden
Heart).
All participants wore colourful branded T/shirts and
were armed with fliers for distribution to the amazed
public. Music was provided by a DJ to entertain and
energise participants as they embarked on this historic
walk. The awareness train finally berthed at The Palms
Mall, Lekki much to the amusement of weekend shoppers.
The thrilled shoppers at the mall were treated to
colourful music and brief facts on Autism.
Different pictures of the occasion were taken by professional
photographers. The Autism walk was later aired on
NTA Newsline, Sunday April 4, 2010 edition. Different
articles on the walk were also reported in various
print media.
